Cut Paper Drawings (2011)
Paper, binders thread. (7"x7" pages, 7"x14" open)
Here I wanted to make a book that works first as a book on its own, rather than depending on the content of the pages. I found the buttonhole stitch to be fitting both because its open spine reveals the process used to construct the book and because the cut paper on the cover corresponds with the cut pages. Cutting the pages to create images was an experiment to reconsider my approach to drawing. Instead of making marks on paper, I sought to communicate the quality of a relationship between two individuals using negative space, light, and shadows.
